Search the Cocke County Court Docket

A Cocke County court docket search starts by matching the case to the court that owns it. Tennessee trial records in Cocke County are divided among several clerks, while the main public portal covers only part of that system. Search the Cocke County court docket for a case number, filing activity, or hearing setting, then confirm current information with the proper clerk. Criminal, civil, probate, juvenile, municipal, appellate, and federal matters do not all appear in one place. The court docket is a useful discovery tool, but the originating court remains the source for official copies and live settings.

Two Cocke Docket Offices Come First

Two offices anchor any Cocke County court docket lookup. Kristy L. Nease, the Circuit Court Clerk, maintains Circuit civil and criminal files. She also takes appeals from General Sessions and Juvenile courts. Brenda Ramsey, the General Sessions Clerk, keeps that court's civil, criminal, and traffic dockets. Pick the wrong office and a search can come back empty. The record may still exist. The official county Circuit clerk page gives the county's current office route.

Cocke County Circuit Court Clerk official page

That office directly supplies Circuit files, lower-court appeals, cost information, and certified Circuit documents.

For the other main trial-court clerk, the General Sessions clerk page identifies the office.

Cocke County General Sessions Court Clerk official page

Its separate contact confirms a split worth remembering. A Sessions case should not be routed to the County Clerk or treated as a Circuit file.

Court Dockets: What They Show

Think of a docket as the court's event record. It shows who an action names, how the court identifies the case, what was filed, which settings were scheduled, and how an event or case was resolved. A posted judge docket works as a hearing snapshot. Nothing more. It is not the full case file, and a status note never substitutes for a signed order.

Case number A local identifier tied to the court and filing year.
Parties The public case style or party names, subject to access limits.
Entries Filings, motions, orders, notices, resets, and other recorded events.
Setting The planned date, time, court, judge or part, and hearing type when listed.
Disposition The recorded result label, which should be checked against the signed judgment or order.
Financial fields Costs, fines, restitution, bond, or payment information when public and maintained by that clerk.

The Circuit docket index links judge-specific criminal and civil PDFs.

Those PDFs help you check planned sessions, but the clerk's maintained file controls any official document request.

Cocke Portal Fields Reward Exact Inputs

The search form is compact. Fields include Party Name, Match all search terms, Case Year, Case Number, Court Type, and Case Type. No hearing-date, judge, attorney, charge, disposition, or document-type filter appears. You can filter and sort results after a search. The help text sets a 2,500-row ceiling, though. The portal offers no export.

Field Best first use
Party Name Full first and last name or a quoted phrase; short partial first names work poorly.
Case Year The four-digit year when the case began.
Case Number Only the final numeric portion of the formatted local number.
Court Type Circuit Court, General Sessions, or both.
Case Type Criminal, Civil, or both.

Keep "Match all search terms" checked on the first narrow attempt. If nothing appears, broaden one fact at a time. Before asking a clerk to repeat a search, write down your query and the boxes you chose.

Cocke County Courts and Their Dockets

No single database covers every Cocke County court docket. Circuit and Sessions run through the county branch of TNCRTInfo, while the Clerk and Master handles Chancery, Probate, and Child Support. Juvenile matters sit with the General Sessions and Juvenile structure and carry confidentiality rules. Municipal clerks hold the Newport and Parrottsville dockets. Federal cases belong to the federal systems in Greeneville.

Cocke Docket Access Has Three Layers

TNCRTInfo forms the public case-search layer for Cocke County court records. Cocke's e-filing rules separately name TnCIS for case management. They also name Nextgen for document management and Tybera eFlex for authenticated filing support. So a public search result and an authorized filing account are different products. The statewide TNCRTInfo landing page links participating county systems.

Tennessee Public Court Records System statewide landing page

Statewide branding does not fold every Tennessee office, or every Cocke court, into one result set.

Cocke Circuit's local rules also provide a public terminal in the clerk's office. It is for viewing public electronic records. That terminal fills the gap when the public index names an entry but shows no document image. Certified and paper copies still come from the clerk. Charges may apply.

Court Dates and Settings in Cocke County

The 2026 Fourth Judicial District calendar lists planned sessions across four counties. Those are Cocke, Grainger, Jefferson, and Sevier. Keep the county label attached to anything you copy. A district calendar entry does not prove an individual case is on that session, and a posted PDF can change after you download it.

Local calendar shorthand helps you read the Cocke County court schedule entries. CM stands for Civil Motions, NJ for Non-Jury, and J for Jury. DS means Docket Sounding, NS means New Session, and OOP means Orders of Protection. GJ is Grand Jury, and Arr is Criminal Arraignment. A reset or cancelled entry is history until a current setting is confirmed. For the full date-check route, use the Cocke County court schedule, then call the assigned clerk if a notice and PDF disagree.

The Circuit clerk home page carries court-date and local-office links.

For a current phone number, the clerk page beats an old saved docket document every time.

A Cocke Docket Note Is a Clue

A hearing PDF can carry a charge, setting type, bond, attorney, agency, plea, sentence, disposition, or reset note. Each field answers one narrow question. A bond is not a disposition. A "resolved" note is not the signed judgment. A scheduled setting never proves the hearing took place.

Run a three-step check: the district calendar, the current judge PDF, and the clerk's maintained case record. This matters most after a reset or when a civil link looks mislabeled. The Judge Moore civil-labeled link resolves to criminal content. So read the document itself instead of trusting link text alone.

Docket Access Under Tennessee Law

Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 34 opens most court records to the public but carves out protected categories. Public access has limits. Sealed files, confidential juvenile and family material, protected identifiers, unpublished drafts, and certain internal judicial work can stay off limits.

Key rules:

Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 34 supplies the judiciary's public-access framework.

Tennessee Code § 10-7-503 governs inspection and sufficiently detailed copy requests, subject to exceptions.

Tennessee Code § 10-7-504 preserves statutory confidentiality limits.

The Tennessee courthouse finder lists official court locations and tells users to confirm details on their own.

That caution matters here, since official Cocke address listings disagree about several court offices.

Cocke Court Addresses Need Confirmation

The live Circuit clerk route lists 111 Court Avenue, Room 201. Other official court directories place Circuit, Criminal, or Chancery at 301 Cosby Highway. The AOC directory puts the Clerk and Master at Courthouse Annex, Suite 103, 360 East Main Street. Yet the county's own Clerk and Master page uses 301 Cosby Highway. Treat none of those as settled. Call before you drive anywhere.

The Circuit clerk answers at 423-623-6124, General Sessions at 423-623-8619, and the Clerk and Master at 423-623-3321. Confirm which building holds the record. Ask whether the counter is open, and whether the case has moved to archives.

The Cocke County Clerk and Master page outlines the office's work. That work spans Chancery, Probate, and Child Support.

The office scope is settled even though the physical-location listings must be checked.

How the Clerk Keeps Docket Records

The clerk keeps the official court files, accepts filings, records case activity, collects authorized costs, and provides copies when available. Staff can walk you through locating, inspecting, copying, certifying, and filing a document. One caution applies. The Circuit clerk's office states plainly that it cannot give legal advice or referrals.

When you request something, name it precisely: the docket sheet, a filed order, a judgment, or a public redacted document. The 2026 Circuit handout sets copies at $0.50 per page, with $6 for certification and seal. Those are Circuit charges only, not a universal municipal fee schedule.

Cocke Docket Archives Reach Back to 1877

Cocke County Records and Archives holds material dating from 1877 to the present across Chancery, Circuit, General Sessions, Juvenile, and other county series. An older case absent from a docket search may still sit there. It could be indexed at the archive, held by the clerk, restricted, or filed under a name variant.

The official Records and Archives page explains the office's preservation and indexing work.

The archive is a fallback, though, not a substitute for the court handling a live case. Ask whether the specific year and series were ever transferred.

City-by-City Court Dockets in Cocke County

Official county sources recognize just two incorporated places: Newport and Parrottsville. Tennessee State Data Center figures from the 2020 Census era put Newport near 6,868 residents. Parrottsville sits near 217. Later certified counts vary. So the record route for each city matters far more than which population snapshot you quote.

Newport Court Records

About 6,868 residents in 2020 Census-era data. Municipal ordinance and city traffic dockets start with Newport City Court Clerk Sara Johnson at City Hall.

Parrottsville Court Records

About 217 residents in 2020 Census-era data. The town court clerk and charter route replace a public web docket, which was not located.

Neither city court shows up as an office choice in Cocke TNCRTInfo. A municipal appeal may later open a Circuit file, but the original municipal record stays with its own separate clerk path.

Cocke Appeals Use Another Docket

A trial record and an appellate record are different things. Tennessee's Court of Appeals takes civil and other noncriminal appeals. Criminal appeals go to the Court of Criminal Appeals. The Tennessee Supreme Court stands as the court of last resort. To search an appeal, use the appellate case number, case style, party, or organization.

Federal cases split again. Cocke County sits in the Greeneville or Northeastern Division of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. The matching bankruptcy division covers the county too. Those courts run on PACER and federal CM/ECF rather than TNCRTInfo. The federal district clerk in Greeneville can be reached at 423-639-3105. The bankruptcy clerk uses 423-787-0113. A federal docket number, a party search, and federal access rules govern what you see. Appeals from the federal district climb to the Sixth Circuit. They do not go to any Tennessee state appellate court.

The Tennessee appellate case search serves as the official appellate gateway.

An appellate result never replaces the underlying Cocke trial file. Track both case numbers and ask the Circuit clerk how the appeal record links back.

Newport Dockets Stay Outside TNCRTInfo

Newport Municipal Court convenes at City Hall. Sessions fall on the first and third Thursday of each month at 2:00 p.m. Its city docket tracks the defendant name, warrant or summons number, alleged offense, disposition, fines or costs, collection status, and related material under Title 3. Newport posts no public citation search or payment portal.

Parrottsville's charter likewise requires a town docket and reports. The town offers no public municipal search either. Whichever city you deal with, hold onto the citation or summons. Contact the clerk directly. Also, never read the missing city checkbox in TNCRTInfo as proof that no municipal record exists.

Newport does provide a written public-record Form A. Pickup, mail, compatible electronic delivery, and any other agreed method all work. The first 20 copies or scanned documents are free. Then $0.50 per page applies. That policy belongs to Newport alone, not to Parrottsville, Circuit, or General Sessions. Parrottsville has a clerk and an official charter route. It has no public search, payment system, request form, or posted copy price. Ask its clerk which written request and delivery method the town will accept.

Map and Directions to the Cocke County Courthouse

Circuit Court records are kept at the Cocke County Courthouse, 111 Court Avenue, Room 201, on the second floor with elevator access, in downtown Newport. The General Sessions Court Clerk also works out of 111 Court Avenue. Other official listings show the Circuit, Criminal, and Chancery Courts at 301 Cosby Highway instead, so call ahead to confirm which building holds a given file before a visit.
